Virtual Villagers - The Secret City [Game Download] Review

Pros:
I've played this game many times in the past and it's so addicting and fun. It's appropriate for all ages and it's very laid-back and even though it is compared to The Sims series, there is really no comparison. You can kind of fast forward but its nothing relatively close time-wise because you still have to wait almost 24 hours for something fun to happen. But I'm not complaining because that's what I love about the game. I can start playing, do something interesting, exit the game for a day or two and when I come back, there's a surprise; and whether it's a good or bad surprise, it's still a little fun.

Cons:
Dealing with the game download itself, the game file I purchased through here was corrupt. So unless you feel like taking the risk and losing .99 (can be a lot sometimes for a college student) I don't suggest purchasing the Game Download version here. I suggest buying this game directly from Last Day of Work and receive the CD in the mail. (Chances are, it won't be a corrupt file)

Sorry to be a debby downer. I honestly love this game, but not being able to download it after purchase made me sad.

This game came as a demo on my computer and my teen son and I enjoyed it. However I didn't want to purchase it on WildTangent for .99 a year subscription so I was ecstatic when I found it at Amazon. I purchase the game at Amazon for .99 without a year's obligation. The download was quick and easy. Now let us talk about the game. This is a real time game that means even when you turn it off events are still happening. So I invested a few hours up front getting my food supply, research and doctors in place then it is a game of just checking in to deal with events and steering your characters in the right direction. If you are looking for a game like Roller Coaster Tycoon, Sims or Sim City that requires a lot of interaction this is not the game for you. But if you want to invest a little time and see rewards and loses each time you check in to fine tune your civilization this is it. The best part is you can download the demo and try it before you buy it man so get to saving some villagers.

Virtual City [Game Download] Review

This is a great city game for the price, there are challenge requirements for every level and along the way you'll unlock new buildable amusements like baseball stadium and movie theater that's proves very useful near the end.

Caution: This is in no way comparable to Sim City or The Sims; I've played both and this felt like a new direction and whole different experience.
I'm using Win 7 Ultimate. (No problems with the game at all on my desktop or NETBOOK)

Pros -
Solid economic structuring
Great Graphics
Long Game Play
Strategy is required on most levels
Sandbox Mode (No obstacles, just build whatever in the five playable states)
New Experience to nostalgic Sim City players

Cons -
Eventually you get to a point where money really isn't difficult to raise... hurts the strategy on some levels.
Can only build three types of houses...
One level in the 4th State is ridiculous for time limit,
(Don't like levels that have no time cushion, absolute zero errors to beat it.)

I hope they make more choices for housing and level the choices evenly per category in the sequel. Also I would like to see more interactional functions in the regular structures (Placement increases more or less population, effects on environment, and specials that cost a little cash to trigger.)

This game is pretty fun. It downloaded pretty fast and works great. I like farm games but this one was not quite what I thought it would be, it is still pretty fun. There a couple of things about the game that I do not care for but overall not bad at all.

I'm not really sure how Virtual Villagers manages to do it. Each of their games is very similar to the previous ones. They all have the same look, similar quests, side tasks like collections, etc. And yet, I find each of them compelling and I always buy a new Virtual Villagers game almost as soon as it's released. And Virtual Villagers 4 was no exception- I bought it a few days after release, and I've been quite happy with my purchase. Like the earlier VV games, this operates in real time, as you manage a tribe building a society on a deserted island. In VV 4 there's a large but sick tree in the middle of the island- restoring it is an essential part of the player's job, along with the normal building, food collection, etc. Each installment of VV does seem to be slightly prettier and brighter than the last, and that's true here, though the graphics are of the same quality, and everything looks very familiar to those who've played other VV games. Several quests on VV 4 were nearly impossible to locate without a walkthrough, but overall, I'm pleased I bought this game, and I'm sure when VV 5 is released, I'll be buying it right away.
